Server
As a server at The Getaway in St. Petersburg, my job went beyond just taking orders and delivering food. I was the main point of contact for customers, so I was responsible for ensuring they had a great experience from start to finish. I greeted guests, answered menu questions, made recommendations and addressed any concerns the customers had throughout their experience. I was expected to upsell items like drinks, appetizers and desserts while paying attention to customer preferences to make suggestions tailored to them. I also handled the financial side of things which meant processing payments, keeping track of tips and ensuring accurate billing. Working with my coworkers, we used constant communication and problem-solving, creating a positive experience for both the staff and customers.
Hostess
As a hostess at Bahama Breeze in Tampa, my primary responsibility was to create a welcoming first impression for guests as they entered the restaurant. I greeted guests with a friendly attitude, managed the waitlist, and made sure that guests were seated as quick as possible, while taking into consideration their preferences and the availability of tables. I was able to help maximize revenue during the restaurant’s busy season by getting customers seated in a timely manner, creating high turnover. I communicated with servers to generate smooth transactions between arrivals, helping to eliminate stress of coworkers. I also maintained cleanliness of the welcome area to ensure it was always neat and inviting. My role as a hostess helped me gain great multitasking and customer service skills, which made the job a great experience for myself and team.
Beverage Cart Attendant
My role as a beverage cart attendant for Turnberry Golf Club in The Village of Lakewood, Illinois helped me to develop valuable business skills. During this role, I developed the skills of connecting with people, managing sales and managing inventory. This job was very independent and required me to personalize my guests’ experience. My customers’ became friends to me and I created an environment that they would be excited to come to. I learned how to upsell by using my personality which created more revenue for the business and more tips for myself. I managed multiple tasks such as driving, restocking, cleaning, and multiple transactions at once. These responsibilities led me to have a strong sense of attention to detail and need for customer satisfaction.
Cashier
Working as a cashier at Mariano’s in Crystal Lake, Illinois, I gained valuable business skills such as customer interaction, sales and operational tasks. I built financial accuracy through processing transactions, managing digital payments and handling cash. Processing transactions was essential for generating revenue for the company and my ability to do it efficiently helped a great deal. In addition to processing payments, I helped with inventory by monitoring stock levels as I was taking transactions. I also assisted in loss prevention by checking for errors and verifying prices. As the final point of contact for customers, my engagement and friendliness played a vital role in customer loyalty and the store’s reputation.
Front-End Associate
As a front-end associate at Jewel-Osco in Algonquin, Illinois, I carefully bagged groceries, preventing items from being damaged. Packing items carefully and organizing them within the customers cart taught me to pay attention to details. My role was important in creating customer satisfaction as they relied on me to handle their items with care. My job also entailed attending to the shopping carts on the inside and outside of the store. I made sure that the store and parking lot looked organized and the shopping carts were in their correct spots. Although these tasks are behind the scenes, they are essential for the function of the store and for customers to have a great experience.
Brand Representative
My role as a brand representative at Hollister in Algonquin, Illinois was my first job working with customers. My job was to create a wonderful customer experience and promote the latest trends. I would help customers pick out clothing items based on the age, gender, style and preferences of the customer. I also used my own knowledge on the products and offered styling advice to drive sales. Additionally, I helped set up displays, making them visually appealing to grab the attention of a potential buyer. Keeping the store organized and cleanly was a big part in the success of the sales I made. This role allowed me to grow skills in sales and visual marketing.
